China reponse:
- China slaps 10%-15% retaliatory levies on U.S. agriculture exports
- Levies will affect about $21 billion in US exports
- Clamps export, investment controls on 25 U.S. firms
Canada responds with 25% tariffs:
- Canada is implementing countermeasures worth $155 billion on U.S. imported goods
- The first phase includes immediate tariffs on $30 billion in U.S. goods
- If U.S. tariffs continue, Canada will increase countermeasures to the full $155 billion
- The scope could also increase if new U.S. tariffs are imposed
- Canada stated this was not their desired outcome but is necessary to protect their economy and jobs
- First phase tariffs began at 12:01 a.m., March 4, 2025
- First phase targets include:
- Orange juice
- Peanut butter
- Wine, spirits, and beer
- Coffee
- Appliances
- Apparel and footwear
- Motorcycles
- Cosmetics
- Certain pulp and paper products
- The potential second phase (additional $125 billion) is open for a 21-day comment period
- Second phase targets would include:
- Electric vehicles
- Fruits and vegetables
- Beef and pork
- Dairy products
- Electronics
- Steel and aluminum
- Trucks and buses
