Trump Trade War Diary — Day 38
Trump is to go ahead with tariffs on Canada and Mexico, more tariffs on China
Donald Trump has announced he will:
- Implement tariffs on Mexico and Canada starting March 4 (reversing a previous delay)
- Add an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports (on top of existing 10% tariffs) starting March 4
- Proceed with planned “reciprocal” tariffs affecting various countries and products on April 2
China condemned the action, stating there are “no winners” in a trade war. Canada’s Prime Minister Trudeau promised “strong, immediate and certain” retaliation, including $30 billion in counter-tariffs on US goods. These moves raise concerns about a potential global trade war that could significantly damage the world economy.

Same day, Sir Keir Starmer visited the White House, where Trump received him with much warmth, likely to be cause by the Starmer brining invitation fro the King for Trump to visit the UK.
Trump indicated that the UK is different from the EU, and is likely to avoid Trump tariffs. I would not be that happy as this is a clear attempt to divide EU and UK. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
